About Sound Guru

Sound Guru came about after I started the popular SoundsLogical Channel on Youtube.

In the comments to those videos, I'm often asked detailed questions that are difficult to answer in a ten-minute video. So, I decided to start making comprehensive packs of tutorials on different aspects of synthesis, sound design and music-making in Logic, with a focus on electronic music.

My goals with Sound Guru:

  • To make resources to help musicians make better music.
  • To sell those resources in a simple, open format. No DRM, proprietary software or subscriptions.
  • To encourage creativity in music — we're not about copying generic sounds and styles. Rather, we want to give you the tools to make any sound or style, be it classic or innovative.

About Me

I'm Tom Maisey, the maker of this site and these resources. Two years ago I started posting Youtube videos about making electronic music in Logic, just for fun. There was a terrific response, and the videos had been viewed nearly 600,000 times (!) at the time of writing.

The best thing to come out of the Youtube channel is that it has given me and others the opportunity to meet like-minded people, and share ideas about sound design and music. There are lively and intelligent discussions in the comments to the videos (which must be a first for Youtube!)

I'm 25 years old, and I've been into electronic music production since I was about 17. I don't claim any special credentials, except that I've spent 8 years reading every book that I can get my hands on, practicing, and working by trial-and-error. I eat, sleep and breathe electronic music.
